Neurofeedback for Children
A gentle, painless, medication-free way to help a young brain learn to settle and focus, guided by a qEEG brain map.
Brain training, without the medication.
Neurofeedback is a drug-free, painless way to help a child’s brain learn to settle and focus. For kids and teens in Clarksville, TN, it gives parents an option with no medication and nothing sent into the body, just gentle brain training guided by a qEEG brain map. It will not fit every child or every situation, but for many families it is a calm, low-pressure place to begin.

You know your child better than anyone, and you can usually tell when something is not clicking. The homework that turns into a nightly standoff. The meltdown that arrives out of nowhere and lasts too long. The bedtime that stretches past ten because a busy little mind will not power down. The teacher notes that keep circling the same word: focus.
None of that means your child is broken, and none of it means you are failing them. Often it just means a young brain is working hard to regulate itself and not quite getting there yet. That is exactly the kind of pattern neurofeedback is built to work with, gently and without medication, by helping the brain rehearse steadier rhythms of its own.
Is neurofeedback safe for kids?
Safety is almost always a parent’s first question, and it is the right one to ask. Neurofeedback is non-invasive and painless. The sensors rest on the scalp and only read the electrical activity the brain is already producing; nothing is sent in, there are no needles, and there is no electrical current involved.
Because of that, the process is manageable for many children, including kids who get anxious about anything that looks medical. A session feels closer to a focused video game than to a treatment, and a parent can stay nearby the whole time. To be clear, neurofeedback is not a cure, and it is not a substitute for the care your child already gets from a pediatrician or therapist. What it offers is a gentle, drug-free way to support a child’s own self-regulation, which is why so many parents are comfortable giving it a try.
What it can support in children.
Parents most often come to us around focus and attention, emotional regulation, and sleep, the areas where a dysregulated young brain tends to show up first. In those areas, training aims to help a child’s brain steady its own rhythms, but how much it helps differs from one child to the next, and we never promise a particular result.
For questions specifically about ADHD and attention, our page on ADHD & attention goes deeper into how training fits alongside other support. For children on the autism spectrum, our autism & regulation page explains our regulation-support framing and is honest that the research there is still limited and mixed. We keep that same honesty across the board: neurofeedback is a support, not a guaranteed fix, and it works best as one piece of a bigger picture that includes the people already helping your child.
What a child’s brain map and sessions are like.
Everything starts with a qEEG brain map, the same painless recording we do for adults, just paced to keep a child comfortable. Your child wears a soft cap of sensors for a few minutes while we record, and then we turn that into a color-coded picture and sit down with you to explain what it shows.
The training itself looks like a game: your child watches or listens to something on a screen that responds to their brainwaves, and their brain is quietly rewarded for steadier patterns as they go. Sessions are short, and parents are welcome to stay involved. You will always know what we are working on and why. When it feels like the right first step, you can start with a brain map.
Close to home, on a full family schedule.
We see a lot of Clarksville and Fort Campbell families, and military life adds its own weight for children: a parent away on deployment, another new school after another move, a household routine that keeps getting reshuffled. Kids feel all of that, and it often surfaces as trouble focusing or settling down. Having a drug-free option close to home, at our clinic on Memorial Drive, means one less long drive on a family schedule that is already full. Whatever brought you here, your child is welcome. Parent questions
At what age can a child start?
There is no strict cutoff. What matters is whether a child can sit reasonably still for a short session, and we adapt our approach for younger kids.
Does the brain map or the training hurt?
No. The sensors only read activity, so there are no needles and nothing is sent in, and most kids find it easy.
Can a brain map diagnose my child’s ADHD?
No. A qEEG brain map shows patterns in brainwave activity. It cannot diagnose ADHD or any condition, and it is not a substitute for a proper evaluation.
Will neurofeedback replace my child’s doctor, therapist, or school support?
No. We coordinate with your pediatrician, therapist, and school rather than replace them, because a child does best when everyone is working together.
How many sessions will my child need?
It varies. After the brain map and results review we will give you a realistic sense of what a course looks like, usually spread over a number of weeks.
